Oil Control Face Moisturizer & The Dos & Don’ts of Oily Skin

While experiencing excess sebum on your skin’s surface might lead to breakouts, there are actually some benefits to having oily skin. That’s because oil is a natural preservative for your skin, meaning that those who have the problem tend to have a younger-looking complexion. What you need to do is stroke a balance – something oil control face moisturizer can help you achieve.

If you are living with oily skin, there are a number of dos and don’ts that you should be aware of, as otherwise, you’re going to cause problems. So, without further delay, let’s jump in – starting first with the DOs.

    The DOs

By getting yourself a good oil control face moisturizer from a company like PanOxyl, you’ll get a good head start in dealing with the problem, however, you’ll do yourself lots of favors by adhering to the following Dos.

    • DO carry out your face washing routine every morning and evening, and back this up by doing so again after exercise. It might be incredibly tempting to rub the skin, but it’s only going to cause irritation, so avoid it if you can.
    • DO ensure that your foaming face wash is a gentle one. There’s something of a misconception out there that you need a wash with a more powerful action when you have oily skin, but doing so will only dry you out more, leading to more oil.
    • DO opt for non-comedogenic and ‘oil-free’ cleansers, makeup and moisturizers, otherwise, you risk making the condition worse or getting breakouts caused by clogged pores.
    • DO always use sunscreen. This is a tip that applies to everyone, regardless of skin type, as not wearing it simply opens you up to UV damage or melanoma at worst. A mineral-based sunscreen is usually best for oily skin, as it doesn’t need to be absorbed to provide protection.
    • DO use a moisturizer every, despite what you might have heard. Excess oil is a symptom of dryness, and while oil looks wet, it’s not giving your skin any moisture. By using an oil control face moisturizer that’s designed precisely for this job, you’ll get all the necessary hydration to your skin.
    • DO carry around blotting paper with you, as it can be extremely useful in helping you stay shine-free during the day. That’s because its super-absorbency allows a lot of the excess oil to be mopped up. Just don’t rub your skin, dab it.

And here we are with the Don’ts…

    • DON’T buy alcohol-based or oil-based cleansers, as they’re almost definitely going to cause you irritation.
    • DON’T keep touching your face during the day. For some of us, it’s a habit, but you have to fight the temptation as you risk making things worse by transferring dirt, oil and bacteria to your skin.
    • DON’T go to bed in your makeup, no matter how late you get in from a club and how much you don’t want to go through the hassle. All that will happen is you’ll wake up with a big mess to clear up and aggravated skin.

Retaining Control of Your Complexion For the Long-Term

When you put the effort in and do the right things, you can enjoy clear, healthy, balanced skin as everyone deserves to. A small investment in a good quality oil control face moisturizer should be your first step, followed by adhering to the advice we’ve given you here.

Want to know the good news? No matter how bad your oily skin is, it doesn’t have to be permanent. It just takes a little organisation with a smidgeon of dedication.

Get yourself into a routine of doing the right things, and you’ll have healthy, breakout-free skin before you know it.
