Alibaba.com is the largest wholesale marketplace in the world, and many small businesses turn to it as a source of cheap products. If you’re an entrepreneur looking to do business internationally or expand your business, Alibaba.com reads may be the ideal place to start if you’re looking for tips and tricks on how to run a thriving business.

In addition to the tips available on the Alibaba.com blog, here are some handy tips that will help you successfully negotiate with your supplier on Alibaba.com and save you time and money.

    1) Don’t be afraid to ask

    2) Do your research

    3) Have realistic expectations

    4) Set goals ahead of time

    5) Practice negotiating before placing an order

    6) Consider buying in bulk

    7) Request for a wholesale price list

    8) Ask suppliers about their MOQ

    9) Create relationships

    Close successful deals with suppliers

    1) Don’t be afraid to ask

When negotiating with suppliers on Alibaba.com, don’t be afraid to ask for what you want. If you’re clear about what you need, suppliers will be more likely to give you a better price.

Here are a few tips to keep in mind when bargaining with Alibaba.com suppliers:

      • Don’t hesitate to make a counteroffer if a supplier rejects your first offer. While some suppliers may outright reject the counteroffer, others may be willing to negotiate.
      • Be ready to walk away if the vendor rejects your terms or makes unreasonable demands.
      • If an offer seems too good to be true, it probably is—even if the supplier assures you otherwise!

    2) Do your research

When you’re looking for a supplier on Alibaba.com, conduct research. There are a lot of scammers online, so you want to ensure you’re dealing with a reputable supplier. Check several suppliers’ reviews to find reputable suppliers. Once you’ve found a few reputable potential suppliers, you can start negotiating.

    3) Have realistic expectations

It’s important to remember that the suppliers on Alibaba.com are businesses, just like the buyers. They want to make a profit, and they’re not going to do that by selling products at a loss.

So, before you start negotiating with suppliers, set realistic expectations about what you can expect to pay. If your product is significantly more expensive than similar products from other suppliers, you’ll likely be able to negotiate for a lower price. On the other hand, if your product is fairly priced among other competitors’ products, then there may not be much room for negotiation.

    4) Set goals ahead of time

Before reaching out to suppliers on Alibaba.com, consider what you’re looking for. Some important factors to consider include:

      • What kind of products do you need?
      • What quantities do you need?
      • What is your budget?

Once you have a good understanding of your needs, you can start reaching out to suppliers.

    5) Practice negotiating before placing an order

Before you place an order with a supplier on Alibaba.com, practice your negotiating skills. Practicing beforehand will help you get a feel for the process and what to expect.

Here are a few tips that may help when you’re starting to negotiate:

      • Conduct thorough research. Read reviews and contact previous buyers if possible before reaching out to suppliers. Also, compare prices among various suppliers before starting negotiations with a supplier to avoid starting negotiations with a supplier who is more expensive than others.
      • Once you choose a supplier, contact them first through Alibaba.com’s chat system or the email address listed on their page.

    6) Consider buying in bulk

When you’re looking to buy products from a supplier on Alibaba.com, one of the best ways to get a lower price is to buy in bulk because suppliers are often willing to give discounts to customers who place large orders.

However, before buying items in bulk, determine what package size suits your needs. Bulk packages generally start from 100 pieces and can go up to 10,000 or more. Also, consider how much you can sell to avoid products going bad or becoming outdated.

    7) Request for a wholesale price list

Alibaba.com suppliers often stock numerous products, not just one. Ask them for their wholesale price lists (you can do this when ordering samples) to check if other products might be more cost-effective for your company.

    8) Ask suppliers about their MOQ

Minimum Order Quantity, also called MOQ, is the minimum quantity of products Alibaba.com suppliers are willing to sell in a single order. Your MOQ should depend on the size of your business, but typically 500 pieces are enough for most startups.

If you’re having trouble finding a supplier with a suitable MOQ for your budget, try negotiating for a lower MOQ with the supplier. Alternatively, try searching for a supplier with a lower MOQ.

    9) Create relationships

To get the most out of deals on Alibaba.com, build relationships with suppliers. If you build relationships, you’ll be able to negotiate favorable terms.

Here are a few tips for building relationships with suppliers on Alibaba.com:

      • Don’t be afraid to chat with your potential suppliers and show a genuine interest in their business. They’ll appreciate it.
      • Don’t be too demanding when negotiating prices. Instead, be open to making compromises. If you do so, suppliers will be more willing to work with you in the future.
      • Contact your supplier first if you notice something wrong with your order (such as a missing item) before you post negative feedback about them online. Remember, suppliers are only human and may make mistakes from time to time.

    Close successful deals with suppliers

Negotiations can be daunting. But they don’t have to be. Use these nine tips and tricks to get the most out of your negotiations the next time you’re negotiating with suppliers on Alibaba.com.
