How to Clean Your Engagement Ring at Home

Often you face the question of how to clean your engagement ring. Your engagement ring is a symbol of love, so it’s essential to maintain it properly. Over time, dirt and grime can accumulate on the surface of the ring, reducing its shine.

Cleaning an engagement ring can be especially detrimental to its diamond or gemstone, causing it to lose its shine and sparkle. Fortunately, cleaning your engagement ring is simpler than you might think!

    1. Dish Soap

Dirt and oil can accumulate over time on your ring’s metal or setting, decreasing its shine. To maintain optimal ring shine, have it professionally cleaned at least once a year.

In-between appointments, there are plenty of ways to keep your engagement ring looking gleaming at home. Dish soap is an efficient cleaner that won’t harm the gems or metal in your ring.

Mix a small amount of dish soap in a bowl of warm water, and place your ring into the mixture. Allow it to soak for 20 minutes or so. Afterward, gently scrub with a soft toothbrush to remove any leftover dirt/residue. Rinse and dry using either paper toweling or soft cloth taking care not to snag anything.

    2. Vinegar

Cleaning your diamond engagement ring at home with vinegar can be a great way to remove dirt and grime. Just remember, do this carefully and with great attention.

For silver diamond rings, try this solution: half a cup of white vinegar mixed with two tablespoons baking soda. Let it soak for two to three hours before rinsing and drying thoroughly with a soft cloth.

Another option is to submerge your ring in a bowl of ketchup for several minutes and then brush it away using a soft toothbrush. This method effectively removes tarnish from silver rings without harming their metal composition.

    3. Water

One of the simplest ways to clean your engagement ring is with water. Just mix a small amount of liquid dish soap and warm, lukewarm water in a bowl and leave the ring to soak for 20-40 minutes.

By soaking your ring in warm water, you can loosen dirt that has built up on its prongs and hidden areas. Finally, lightly brush away any residue with a soft toothbrush.

If your engagement ring is made of gold or silver, beer can help restore it to its gleaming condition. Just be sure to use a light beer with fewer hops so as not to discolor the metal.

    4. Soft Toothbrush

A soft toothbrush is an effective way to clean your engagement ring without harming it. Be mindful not to snag or pull on its prongs as you clean.

If you’re not comfortable using a toothbrush, jewelry cleaning solution or warm water can also be used to clean your ring. Just be sure to rinse thoroughly afterwards in order to remove any soap residue left behind.

Rings commonly become dirty due to hairspray, lotion or makeup use. To eliminate these stains, fill a small bowl with warm water and dishwashing liquid; leave your ring soak for 20-40 minutes.

    5. Cotton Cloth

Everyday wear and tear can build up layers of dirt and oil on a diamond’s surface, making it difficult to keep its shine intact. But knowing how to clean your engagement ring at home will help you maintain its radiance between professional cleanings.

Cotton cloths are an excellent way to clean your diamond engagement ring without risking damage to it. This soft material won’t scratch the metal and will dry quickly.

    Conclusion

Through this article, we got the answer to the question of how to clean engagement ring. The process is streamlined for convenience, so you can do it at home as often as needed. While this will help prevent dirt and bacteria from damaging your ring, it should never replace professional upkeep.
