Venous Stasis Dermatitis is a condition where the veins of the lower legs block the blood from flowing freely. It is also known as Venous eczema, and it is also a condition where sometimes the blood leaks out of the veins with pressure build-up.

It is mainly found in people over 50 and is common among women. Medical treatment for this venous stasis dermatitis is highly recommended at the early stage. If you are in Somerville and face this dermatitis problem, you can visit any venous stasis dermatitis Somerville for better treatment.

What are the Causes of Venous Stasis Dermatitis?

The veins in the lower leg are one way; therefore, if the blood in the veins doesn’t work well, they cannot return to the heart. Here, the veins have to push the blood to the lower leg. But as you age, you might face problems in your veins, which might not work well. Some of the important causes of venous stasis dermatitis are:

    • Overweight
    • High blood pressure
    • Kidney failure
    • Heart failure
    • Blood clot
    • Post-surgery

What are the Symptoms of Venous Stasis Dermatitis?

One of the important symptoms of venous stasis dermatitis is swelling in the lower leg around the ankles. However, some other symptoms are visible when it becomes severe.

    • Skin turning red
    • Bulging veins
    • Thick skin around the ankle and shins
    • Hair loss around the ankle and shins
    • Severe pain and discomfort
    • Itching and crusts around the skin.

What is the Treatment for Venous Stasis Dermatitis?

The best way to prevent venous stasis is to avoid having it in the first place. However, if you feel the symptoms have occurred, you can visit the doctor for consultation and treatment. Initially, doctors will also recommend physical exercises that you should follow. You should avoid passive positions and go walking to keep blood circulation proper in the first place.

While sleeping, you can elevate your feet a few inches for better blood circulation. But, if you find no impact with these and the pain is becoming severe, you can consult doctors for non-surgical and surgical treatments. They can recommend some pills and creams; surgical treatment would be recommended even with the medications if it is not solved.

Maintaining your physical health with exercise is important to avoid such instances and venous problems. You should also change your lifestyle from passive to active positions to get over these dermatitis issues.
