Warning Signs of a Heart Attack

Human bodies are incredibly resilient and capable of withstanding a great deal of wear and tear. However, that doesn’t mean your body is indestructible. One of the most important organs in the body is the heart. Dr. Rishin Shah advises that you should be aware of the warning signs of a heart attack because it can happen to anyone at any time, even if you are young and healthy.

The heart is responsible for pumping blood throughout the body, which delivers oxygen and nutrients to the cells. Without the heart, the body would not be able to function. Like any other organ, the heart can be susceptible to disease and injury. A heart attack is one of the most serious conditions affecting the heart.

In order to quickly understand the condition, here are some of the most common warning signs of a heart attack:

Pain or discomfort in other areas of the upper body

This includes pain or discomfort in one or both arms, neck, stomach, back, or jaw. It is important to remember that not everyone experiences chest pain during a heart attack. Women are more likely to experience pain in other upper body areas than men. The main reason is that their chests are often less muscular than men’s, so the pain is more diffuse.

    Shortness of breath

This is a common symptom, and it may happen even before chest pain. It can occur when you are resting or doing something not physically strenuous. You also need to understand that shortness of breath can be caused by other conditions, such as anxiety or asthma. However, if you have difficulty breathing and chest pain or discomfort, it is important to seek medical help immediately.

Breaking out in a cold sweat

Cold sweat is one of the less common symptoms, but it is still important to be aware of it. It usually occurs along with chest pain or discomfort. Additionally, you may also feel lightheaded or dizzy.

    How a heart attack happens

Heart attacks occur when the flow of oxygen-rich blood to the heart muscle is blocked. This can happen due to a buildup of plaque and cholesterol in the arteries, called coronary artery disease. When a heart attack occurs, every second counts. It is important to call for medical help right away and get to a hospital as soon as possible.

The causes of a heart attack include unhealthy lifestyle habits, such as smoking and eating unhealthy foods. Other causes include medical conditions, such as high blood pressure and diabetes. You can help prevent a heart attack by making healthy lifestyle choices and managing any medical conditions you have.

For instance, quitting is one of the best things you can do for your heart health if you smoke. Smoking damages your blood vessels and makes it more difficult for your blood to flow freely, leading to a heart attack.

If you or someone you know is experiencing chest pain or discomfort, talk to your specialist at Prime Heart and Vascular. Your doctor can determine if you are having a heart attack and provide the appropriate treatment.
