The 4 best performance cars of 2022

What characteristics distinguish a superb performance car? At first glance, everything seems straightforward: tonnes of power from a dynamic engine, combined with nimble, engaging handling.

Performance cars must be practical and pleasant enough to be used every day, unlike pure sports cars, which are frequently weekend novelties. To do this, they must have at least four seats, a respectable boot capacity, a compliant drive, and a luxurious, user-friendly cabin.

When driving a performance car, the relationship between you and the vehicle is paramount, placing the experience at the centre of everything. And while many performance cars accomplish this in various ways, they all need to be as interesting and capable.

So here are our top 4 performance cars of 2022 which can be won in a performance car giveaway.

The top end of the scale contains vehicles that, like a complete supercar, are incredibly quick and exhilarating to drive, but our favourites also combine some real utility and usability. A noticeable example being the Porsche 911.

    Porsche 911

The Porsche 911 has evolved as it enters its eighth (992) generation. The famous sports car is now a better GT, offering more technology and functionality than ever thanks to the additional comfort and technology that came with it. As a result, it keeps raising the standard in this market.

Performance is not sacrificed, either, as the modern Porsche 911 is quicker and more manoeuvrable than its predecessor. While maintaining the distinctive rear-engined dynamics of the package, it also has a helpful side that makes the 992-generation sports vehicle even more exploitable.

Obviously, the cost has increased due to all this additional technology and functionality, but the 911 is still an incredible feat of engineering. These modifications to the 992 result in even more of the comfort, usefulness, and performance for which the 911 is renowned, in addition to increased efficiency.

Although it still competes in the same market segment, costs range from £90,000 to more than £200,000. This sports car will therefore compete for customers against the Aston Martin Vantage, Mercedes-AMG GT, and Audi R8, as well as higher-end Jaguar F-Type versions.

    BMW M3

Despite its divisive appearances, BMW’s M3 saloons most recent iterations continue their legacy of dominating both the road and the track in a package that is simple to drive as an everyday car, provided you wish to.The two most recent models have undergone a significant redesign, with the current six-cylinder twin turbocharged “S58” engine and four-wheel drive being two of the most prominent improvements. The Competition standard is the only version of the M3 available for purchase in the UK, but this is unquestionably a good thing.

The Competition cars include an eight-speed automatic transmission that is optimised to make the most of the xDrive technology, increasing output from 473 bhp to 503 bhp.

    Ford Mustang

The Ford is head and shoulders above its competitors in terms of value. The Mustang GT begins at about £50,000 less than the most recent 911 Carrera S from Porsche but produces the same amount of power (444 horsepower). You not only get a 5.0-liter V8 with a 0-62 mph timing of 4.3 seconds and a top speed cap of 155 mph, but you also save a tonne of money. Little can take away from its abundance of character, despite the fact that it is not as polished, sophisticated, well-built, or controlled as its more expensive competitors. Fans will never grow tired of the roar produced by its quad tailpipes.

    McLaren 720S

The Lamborghini Huracan and the Ferrari 488 were two of the goliath brands that were in mind when the 720S was developed, and most people would find it difficult to compete with them. Fortunately for McLaren, the 720S has been transformed into a terrifying rival thanks to a wealth of technological know-how and a lengthy history in motorsport.

The mid-mounted dual turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine produces a massive 710 horsepower, so there is plenty of power. With this, you can go from 0 to 62 mph in an unnervingly quick 2.9 seconds and reach an equally astounding maximum speed of 212 mph.
